Don’t know what the exact cause was/is for this big surge - but I am glad to see it. No matter what personal problems people may have with the main devs, they are doing great work on the platform.

Also of interest, since this is a good place to plug things, other threadiverse things:

https://liberapay.com/PieFed/

And I couldn’t find a way to donate to mbin, in lieu of that:

EDIT: The creator of mbin gave a link in the comments: https://melroy.org/donate.html

You can still donate to Lemmy without supporting ML! From https://threadiverse.link/lemmy.ml/post/29579005:

Update: For those of you who want to support Lemmy development without financing the hosting of lemmy.ml, know that the hosting is paid exclusively through OpenCollective. You can see the payment details at this link. This means donations through all other platforms (Liberapay, Ko-fi, Patreon, Crypto) are exclusively for Lemmy development, and not a single cent goes to lemmy.ml hosting.

Edit: Liberapay is the preferable donation option, as it has very low fees and is also open source.

This is a bold lie that Nutomic keeps pushing. These donations go directly to Nutomic and Dessalines. The servers are not the problem. The problem is the admins who happen to be the devs.

As was brought up in those threads, but it’s simply not good enough, it’s just paying for .ml with extra steps (e.g. through their pay/salary rather than directly funding hosting costs)

Do they have a link where your money doesn’t go towards moderation costs?

No. Because they’re scammers. They want you to pay them so they can ban people for being against genocide all day.
