Possibly linux@lemmy.zipto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex staff leaving review on Play Store for PlexEnglish21·5 hours agoHow do you know that? Development happens behind closed doors.
The Jellyfin devs are “dragging their feet” because they do not want to break existing clients.
Possibly linux@lemmy.zipto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex staff leaving review on Play Store for PlexEnglish32·9 hours agoYou shouldn’t expose it publicly
There are better ways to do things in 2025
Possibly linux@lemmy.zipto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex staff leaving review on Play Store for PlexEnglish16·9 hours agoHonestly this is something that needs to talked about more. I frequently see people roasting on foss but in reality the proprietary vendors have all sorts of dumb security issues.
Possibly linux@lemmy.zipto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex staff leaving review on Play Store for PlexEnglish41·9 hours agoHow do you even know you were hacked? Are you monitoring the traffic?
Possibly linux@lemmy.zipto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex staff leaving review on Play Store for PlexEnglish22·9 hours agoProducts like Netbird and Tailscale have the ability to act as an ingress node on the network.
Alternatively you could setup Wireguard and a simple http proxy like Caddy. Just give your relatives a box to plug into Ethernet. You could even use it as a backup target.
Possibly linux@lemmy.zipto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex staff leaving review on Play Store for PlexEnglish22·9 hours agoI think the better answer would be to not expose Jellyfin to the internet.
Although it would be cool if it integrated with something like p2panda or libp2p
Possibly linux@lemmy.zipto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex staff leaving review on Play Store for PlexEnglish72·9 hours agoI personally don’t see a reason to use Plex over Jellyfin. Apparently some people agree since Jellyfin made bank from donations.
Possibly linux@lemmy.zipto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex staff leaving review on Play Store for PlexEnglish72·9 hours agoIt isn’t terrible but it isn’t great
It would’ve been better if he gave a disclaimer
Possibly linux@lemmy.zipto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex staff leaving review on Play Store for PlexEnglish74·9 hours agoI find it interesting how the remaining Plex fan base gets extremely pissed off when you criticize Plex. Saying how much you dislike a product doesn’t mean that you are attacking the product users.
Possibly linux@lemmy.zipto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex staff leaving review on Play Store for PlexEnglish71·9 hours agoA large group of people got pissed off at all the enshitification of Plex. It isn’t a personal attack and you are welcome to keep using Plex. However, it is evident that many are looking towards Jellyfin as a better alternative.
Possibly linux@lemmy.zipto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex staff leaving review on Play Store for PlexEnglish91·9 hours agoThat’s what happens when you piss off a loyal fan base
Possibly linux@lemmy.zipto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex staff leaving review on Play Store for PlexEnglish52·10 hours agoIt would’ve been fine with a disclaimer
Possibly linux@lemmy.zipto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Monitor Your Network the GPL Way with LibreNMSEnglish21·16 hours agoNix OS is way more pain than it is worth for me.
There are plenty of alternatives that are much simpler. I prefer just a Debian install managed with tools like Ansible and pyinfra

Possibly linux@lemmy.zipto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Come to say thank you. Time to move from proprietary to Open SourceEnglish01·2 days agoOne thing to note: the NAT traversal doesn’t always work especially for symmetric NAT. If you want reliable p2p connections I would setup IPv6

No need to worry about it if you don’t take the risk. The internet is constantly being scanned by bots.
What are wanting to see and for what purpose?
I still would choose Jellyfin over Plex in a heart beat. You don’t need to switch if you don’t want to.
